Montana Mayfly Tour - April 2005

This past spring brought us back to Montana to try out an early season adventure called the April Mayfly Tour.  Four of us left Detroit on a sunny 70 degree morning headed for who knows what!
An interesting view on the road from Bozeman towards Dillon.  Somewhere behind the old Willys are the Rockies.  I wonder if it still runs?

Folks out west have an interesting concept on sanitation.  Why dig four holes when two will do?  I wonder what happens when you are busy reading your Sears Roebuck catalog on the ground floor and you hear the door slam above you.

Sunrise over the Beaverhead Valley.

Rock and Roll.  First morning out and the Browns and Bows were happy to play with us.  We never did find too many mayfly, but a secret nymph from the Happy Valley seemed to interest these guys all morning long.

This was happy Dan's first ride down the Madison River.  After fighting a 30 M.P.H. breeze all afternoon he was ready to sit back and rest his weary bones.
This handsome fellow came out of the Ruby River near Twin Bridges.  He was caught on a #20 BWO dry fly - I've got to admit that when he bit there was no fly line out the tip.  What a blast,  17" of Brown trout on 10' of leader.  Things were fast and furious for a few minutes, he may have been the highlight of the trip.

Good Eyes Geoffrey!

A last look down the Beaverhead - see you next year!
