Steelhead Alley - October 2009

We finally made the drive over to Erie, PA to check out the stories about Steelhead Alley.  Holy Crap what a place!  Not the scenic wilderness experience, but if you enjoy hooking a lot of angry fish then here you go . . .

An early brown trout - found in a pretty shallow riffle behind a redd eating eggs like there was no tomorrow!

Rick hooks up with a nice buck early in the morning on 16 Mile Creek - Northeast, PA.

Another Elk Creek brown trout - small eggs - hard to keep them off the "fly"

Finally a reel screamer!  Fresh steelhead right out of Lake Erie!
(Notice the Bamboo Rod gently resting on the gravel)

How's that for a crass commercial photo op' - Pretty shiny fish, eh?

Johnny gets a grip on a fresh one - this was a little guy!

Rick hangs on to another one - just a little fatter.

Evenings at the Red Roof Ritz - Cigars, Diet Dr. Pepper and time to re-stock the fly box for tomorrow.  Here John carefully puts together some Baby Blue Sucker Spawn - how classy is that!

You've seen this before - the "Crouch" - an indication of extreme concentration in anticipation on an imminent strike!  Or maybe just stretching the lower back a little.

One of my personal favorites.  Met this lady on Elk Creek before lunch on Friday - How Nice!

Mike lifts a fresh Egg Sucker early in the morning.

Mike again - this time with a nice extension under the Rock Dam.

Richie beginning the hike up Elk Creek.  A very cool walk up the gorge enjoying the cool morning air and fall colors.

A serious pose on a shale shelf - I think the caption is "Prepared for Battle - the 2009 Erie PA campaign!"

One last shiny steely up against the wall.

Richie takes a short break to build up some strength at the All Aboard Dinor - Banana Split Cheesecake - WoW!

You've heard the saying - You have a Friend in Pennsylvania!  Elk Creek near the mouth on Friday afternoon.
